Magna Lens® ML Pro™ Lenses

There are a few tips that you’ll need to know the first time you wear Magna Lens eyewear, so please read this section on optimizing your fit:

Step 1: Start with earmuffs: Put your earmuffs on with the magnets facing forward.

Step 2: Adjust the frame arms: You will want to adjust your eyewear frames so that the nosepiece will sit at your desired location on the bridge of your nose. To do this, you will firmly grasp the end of the frame (the part that holds the ball magnet) and telescope it in or out as needed to either lengthen or shorten the frame arms.

Step 3: Test your fit: Test the fit after making adjustments, then adjust further if necessary. Once you find your correct fit, you don’t have to adjust the frame arms again.

Step 4: Fine-tune adjustments: This one is important: For fine-tune adjustments of the eyewear on your face, you should not try to move the frames as you would with traditional glasses. They won’t move as much as you might want as they are attached to your earmuffs. Instead, for small adjustments, simply grab onto your earmuffs and adjust them on your ears, which will in-turn adjust the glasses on your face. Don’t worry, your ears will not mind these small adjustments to the earmuffs and your eyes will be happy. 

Step 5: Remove eyewear first, and end with removing your earmuffs: Don’t forget to remove your eyewear before you remove your earmuffs, as they are attached. If you do it the other way around, you will look like an amateur, and may risk dropping your eyewear and scratching the lenses.

To attach the prescription insert onto your Magna Lens eyewear, you simply insert the receiving end of the nosepiece onto the slot on the bridge of the prescription insert, and press firmly. It will snap into place. Pull apart to remove.

You may install our custom Magna Lens magnetic adapter brackets onto your non-Magna Lens earmuffs so that you can use your own earmuffs with our Magna Lens eyewear. The following instructions are for most brands of earmuffs. We have separate instructions for earmuffs made by 3M. First, make sure you have purchased the correct adapter bracket that matches your model of earmuffs. If you have any questions about this then please contact us. To begin, rotate the bracket and then firmly pull up to remove the bracket from the cup. Then, rotate the plastic bracket 90 degrees so that the slotted hole of that bracket lines up with the linear crimp in the earmuff headband wire. The wire will then pull straight out of the bracket.

You simply reverse the procedure to reinstall, ensuring that the linear hole in the magnetic adapter bracket matches the linear crimp in the wire. Note the slotted design of the headband wire and adapter. A correct installation has the magnet on the inner part of the bracket, closest to the head.

We sell adapter kits that allow you to use Magna Lens eyewear with non-Magna Lens ear muffs. These are adapter brackets that contain neodymium magnets, which you can quickly swap with your OEM earmuff brackets. Installation of these is described separately above.

In the instance that we do not supply a Magna Lens adapter bracket for your brand of ear muffs, you may wish to use our glue-on magnetic attachment kit.

Please note, before beginning installation, you will want to identify the optimal location for this adapter on your ear muff cup. You may wish to do this by looking at yourself the mirror while wearing your earmuffs, and then place the Magna Lens eyewear up to your ear muffs as if you are going to put them on. At that time, identify the optimal attachment point for the adapter to be placed on your earmuffs. Important note: Please be sure that the your earmuff band will not block this location while wearing your muffs, as some styles of bands may block the ideal attachment point on the earmuff cup.

Please contact us with questions if you are unable to identify the location for installation. Additionally, we encourage you to submit to us a request for Magna Lens adapters for your specific brand ear muffs, as we design and manufacture custom adapters for various brands that require no glue to install. Models are selected in the order of popularity.

The following are instructions on how to add the magnetic adapter kit to an set of non-Magna Lens brand of earmuffs for which no other adapter is available. To be clear, this glue-on adapter kit is only to be used in instances where we have no custom adapter available for your brand of earmuffs. This allows you to wear the Magna Lens eyewear with a standard set of earmuffs.

Once you have identified the location for your installation, we recommend that you use a small piece of sandpaper to rough up the location on the back of the magnet adapter. Then clean the both surfaces with alcohol so that the surfaces are dry and oil-free.

Next, prepare to apply glue to the magnetic adapter. We recommend that you remove one of your magnet arms from your glasses and use it as a holder during installation onto the earmuff cup. This also confirms that your magnets are being installed with the proper polarity. The magnets are not glued into each adapter, but rather each adapter contains two magnets sandwiched together and held with magnetic force. They should not fall out once installed, however if they inadvertently fall out before installation, you will want to make sure they are reinstalled with the correct orientation, and this can be confirmed using the magnetic arm of your glasses. As you may imagine, it is possible to install the adapters with the magnets with the wrong polarity, such that the magnets will repel each other instead of attract, and this can be avoided by using the magnetic arm of your glasses during installation.

Holding the magnetic adapter attached to the magnetic arm of your glasses, you will want to apply a small amount of super glue or epoxy to the magnetic adapter. Then, using the magnetic arm, you will place the magnetic adapter onto your target location on your earmuff cup. You will then carefully apply pressure onto the plastic portion with your fingers, and hold it in place for approximately 30 to 60 seconds while the superglue sets up.

You will leave the magnetic arm in place while the glue sets up over the next few minutes. In the meantime, you can go ahead and repeat the procedure on the other earmuff up.

Once you have both adapters in position, you will let them set up for an hour or two.

Once they glue has set up, you may remove the magnetic arms from each adapter and then reinstall them onto your Magna Lens eyewear.

Now you may use your Magna Lens eyewear with your non-Magna Lens ear muffs.

This procedure is best understood by watching our demonstration video, as the frames can be removed from the lenses in only one orientation. To change lenses on your Magna Lens system, start by removing the frame from the lens by rotating the frame and pulling up at an angle. The frame will hinge on the snap lug closest to the middle of the lens. To re-insert the frame onto a lens, insert that part of the frame into the socket closest to the middle of the lens, then rotate the rest of the frame down into the second socket as illustrated. If properly installed, you should not be able to visualize the lens socket below the frame. Finally, swap out the nose piece by squeezing the sides and removing, and reinserting it onto the lens.

This procedure is best understood by watching our demonstration video. To change your earmuffs from the full configuration to the slim configuration, you simply reach your fingers in and pull out the pad component. Then remove the foam, and repeat the procedure to pull out the middle spacer ring. Next, place the foam back into place and then reinsert the pad component ensuring that you have the side with the magnets in the correct orientation. You then simply repeat the process on the other side.

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly

Before cleaning your eyeglasses, make sure your hands are free from dirt, grime, lotion and anything else that could be transferred to your lenses. Use lotion-free soap or dishwashing liquid and a clean, lint-free towel to clean your hands.

Rinse your glasses under a gentle stream of lukewarm tap water

This will remove dust and other debris, which can help avoid scratching your lenses when you are cleaning them. Avoid hot water, which can damage some lens coatings.

Apply a small drop of lotion-free, citrus free dishwashing liquid to each lens

Most dishwashing liquids are very concentrated, so use only a tiny amount. Or apply a drop or two to your fingertip instead. Use only brands that do not include lotions or hand moisturizers.

Gently rub both sides of the lenses and all parts of the frame for a few seconds

Make sure you clean every part, including the nose pads and the ends of the temples that rest behind your ears. And be sure to clean the area where the edge of the lenses meet the frame, where dust, debris and skin oils can accumulate.

Rinse both sides of the lenses and the frame thoroughly

Failing to remove all traces of soap will cause the lenses to be smeared when you dry them.

Gently shake the glasses to eliminate most of the water from the lenses

Inspect the lenses carefully to make sure they are clean.

Carefully dry the lenses and frame with a clean, lint-free towel

Use a dish towel that has not been laundered with a fabric softener or dryer sheet (these sub-stances can smear the lenses). A cotton towel that you use to clean fine glassware is a good choice. Make sure the towel is perfectly clean. Dirt or debris trapped in the fibers of a towel can scratch your lenses; and cooking oil, skin oil or lotion in the towel will smear them.

Inspect the lenses again

If any streaks or smudges remain, remove them with a clean microfiber cloth. These lint-free cloths are available at most optical shops or photography stores.

Store properly

Store your eyewear in a proper pouch or case to protect the lenses from damage.

While your Magna Lens eyewear are designed and manufactured to provide a high level of protection, it is always possible to sustain a serious injury to your eyes or other body parts. You must take all appropriate precautions when operating in hazardous environments.

Neodymium magnets are not for children

Neodymium magnets are not toys. Children should not be allowed to handle neodymium magnets. Small magnets can pose a choking hazard. If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attach to one another through intestine walls. This can cause a severe health risk, requiring immediate, emergency surgery if correctly diagnosed.

Neodymium magnets can affect pacemakers and other medical devices

The strong magnetic fields near a neodymium magnet can affect pacemakers, ICDs and other implanted medical devices. Many of these devices are made with a feature that deactivates it with a magnetic field. Therefore, care must be taken to avoid inadvertently deactivating such devices.

Magnets can affect magnetic media

The strong magnetic fields near neodymium magnets can damage magnetic media such as floppy disks, credit cards, magnetic I.D. cards, cassette tapes, video tapes or other such devices. They can also damage televisions, VCRs, computer monitors and CRT displays. Avoid placing neodymium magnets near elec-tronic appliances.
